Mono County

Overview of Findings

Residents of rural Mono County have a difficult time accessing dental care services.  Low-income children and families usually seek care at the Sierra Park Rural Dental Clinic in Mammoth.  The rural dental clinic accepts private and public dental insurance as well as uninsured patients.  The clinic also eases access for young children in need of general anesthesiology or sedation dentistry.

First 5 in Mono County has taken an active role in children’s oral health.  They recently collaborated with the Premier Access dental health van to serve children enrolled in Healthy Families.  The van parked at the county library parking lot where 250 children were screened, had varnishings applied, and learned about oral health prevention.  This screening was also an opportunity for children who needed to complete the Oral Health Assessment (AB 1433) requirement upon entering their first year of public schools.
