Health Career Connection

Health Career Connection (HCC) Launches its first placement of HCC students in California’s central Valley in partnership with the Central Valley Health Policy Institute, California State University- Fresno.

HCCFor the first year in its history of 20 years, Health Career Connection (HCC) included 12 students from the San Joaquin Valley. These students were placed as full-time in major healthcare organizations for 10 weeks! Interns had the exclusive opportunity to participate in workshops incorporated in the summer schedule, intended specifically for students to refine their career and educational plans and network with established professionals. Workshops include:

  • Career Development
  • Networking
  • Graduate School Decision making and Preparation
  • Leadership
  • Cultural Competency

Health Career Connection's Founders and Directors are successful executives who are committed to providing students with practical exposure, experience and support to choose and achieve a compelling health career direction and become effective leaders and professionals.

HCC and its predecessor programs have offered internships in California for over 20 years. HCC is committed to increasing the number of California healthcare leaders and professionals from all ethnic backgrounds who will make a difference in improving coverage, access, health status and delivery of service for our richly diverse population.
Health Career Connection (HCC) is the connection between undergraduate students and the information, experiences and support they need to discover and make well-informed choices about healthcare and public health career options. HCC has been created by a group of healthcare executives who are committed to attracting and assisting young people to pursue healthcare careers. HCC is developing an education, leadership and training program with a mission of improving healthcare services by motivating and developing greater numbers of value driven, capable leaders. HCC will:

  1. Address the need for more well-trained health care leaders
  2. Address the under-representation of people of color in the health professions
  3. Foster the development of emerging leaders capable and committed to providing innovative solutions to today’s complex health care challenges

HCCHCC achieves these goals by connecting students to internships, mentors, leadership development, professional networks and web accessible information and contacts on healthcare management careers and educational options.
HCC’s programs and outreach efforts will initially target undergraduate students interested in health care. A priority emphasis will be on students of color.

HCC MISSION

To inspire and empower greater numbers of undergraduate students to choose healthcare and public health careers by providing real world exposure, experience and support that assists them in achieving their goals. Our ultimate aim is to improve healthcare services provided to our population by motivating and developing greater numbers of value driven, capable and diverse leaders and public health professionals.

PAID INTERNSHIPS AND MENTORING

HCC internships are full time positions that last 10 weeks from mid-June through mid-August. Interns are paid an average $4000 for the program. Through an apprenticeship model, preceptors mentor and guide interns, sharing their experience and wisdom.
