“Cochlear Implants in the Classroom”

The Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Studies is pleased to announce that “Cochlear Implants in the Classroom” will be offered on campus for two weeks (July 10th-July 20th) to all interested teachers and professionals working with deaf and hard of hearing children.  Leslie Cox, a teacher at the Alice Birney Elementary School in Fresno and a recent graduate of the national Educational Consultant Training Program (ECTP) in San Francisco will be teaching the summer class.  To the teachers and professionals taking the summer session, she will provide effective and meaningful educational programming for students with cochlear implants in educational settings.  She has the skills to help classroom teachers and DHH itinerant teachers support students with cochlear implants who are making the transition to mainstream classrooms.

Under the guidance leadership of Leslie Cox and a Deaf Education Faculty at CSUF, Nan Barker, the Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Studies has developed and implemented as part of the Deaf Education curriculum for future teachers the new course, “Cochlear Implants in the Classroom.”

Teachers and professionals seeking applications and details of the summer session are invited to contact Dr. Paul Ogden.
