Philosophy
Based on extensive research and years of experience, we believe that, as part of a complete educational experience, community engagement activities such as volunteer community service and service-learning can foster a student's personal and career development, facilitate academic learning,
strengthen students' sense of community, and build leadership skills. Therefore, we seek to provide every Fresno State student with quality service experiences that cultivate a lifelong civic and service-ethic and enhances their academic, personal and/or professional development.
CESL Values
CESL staff members take great pride in developing the highest quality programs possible. By embracing the following values, our goal is to help lead our university in becoming one of the premiere interactive universities in the nation.
Service Centered. We value providing the highest quality service to every person who comes into contact with our programs, our office and our staff. We strive to treat others as they would want to be treated.
Student Oriented. We value measuring our success by our ability to meet student needs and by the service our students provide to the community. Students are the reason for our work.
Fostering A Team Approach. We value maintaining effective, respectful and honest communi-cation in all our interactions. We are a team and all of our individual and collective efforts should reflect that our team only succeeds when everyone works together.
Continuous Improvement. We value promoting a climate that encourages continuous improvement for all the constituencies involved in our work.
Quality Partnerships. We value fostering partnerships on and off campus, which are reciprocal in nature, respectful of the needs of all partners, and where open communication is valued.
Responsive, Flexible and Proactive. We value being responsive, flexible and proactive in order to best serve the needs of our students, faculty, staff and community.
By promoting the values and opportunities offered through community service and encouraging people to be involved, we hope to foster all of the benefits derived through volunteerism.
