Welcoming Diversity is a skill-building workshop designed to help participants identify and celebrate all social and cultural groups, to explore and appreciate similarities and differences, and to assist us in learning from one another and listening more effectively to one another. Our Campus Affiliate Team of the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) will conduct the workshops.
To date our campus team has presented this workshop to more than 150 Fresno State students, faculty and staff. The response to these workshops has been overwhelmingly positive.
The workshops will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Renaissance Room. Lunch will be provided. If you are interested in attending one of these workshops, please register online or email rsvp-cetl@csufresno.edu.
The campus team is available to conduct workshops for campus departments, student clubs and organizations and other entities wanting this service. The team is also trained in a conflict resolution process which is designed to work with groups to "move hotly contested issues forward by teaching a set of skills that are essential for effective conflict resolution: listening first to heartfelt concerns on all sides and then reframing the debate in a way that builds bridges."
The NCBI team is a project of the President's Commission on Human Relations and Equity and is supported by the Office of the President and the Associated Students. For more information on NCBI contact Francine Oputa or Rebecca Aleman at 278-4435.
