California State University, Fresno

Please join us for a special presentation by one of the leaders in the service-learning field, Dr. Kathy O'Byrne, Ph.D. Dr. O'Byrne is an outstanding speaker with years of experience in service-learning and scholarship.

This session will engage faculty in a lively dialogue on the design and implementation of service learning research and the connections to retention, tenure and promotion. The workshop will include a brief review of basic definitions and previous service learning research; an examination of the options for research on multiple levels. There will be something for everyone: quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods will be described. Information on where to publish service-learning research will be provided and a discussion of the pros and cons of service-learning research as part of the RTP process will be held. Participants will also sketch out a study that they can conduct in the next year. Please have in mind a service-learning course you teach or are planning to teach to frame the conversation.
