Some of your students aren't getting it? Maybe they need help
learning how to study. In this participatory workshop, Sonya Hildreth
of the Learning Resource Center will provide tools that faculty can
use to help students get on board. Topics to be covered are:
- Academic Language: How to help students understand the
language of learning and academia. Bring a text you use in your
course(s) to evaluate and look at from a different viewpoint.
- Academic Reading: Tips to share with your students on how to
read texbooks more effectively.
- Note-taking: Tips you can provide to students based on your
lecture style. How to evaluate the clues you give (or don't give)
to students to help them take more effective notes.
- Metacognition: How to help your students think about their
thinking within the context of your discipline.
