Faculty tell us that they'd assign more writing if they had fewer students and more time to respond to that writing or if they felt more confident about being consistent and helpful in their evaluation of assignments that are graded. Further, some find discouraging the quality of their students' writing, making less enjoyable the time spent grading a set of papers. However, there are ways that we can greatly improve our efficiency and effectiveness as graders and also provide helpful feedback (that doesn't end up trashed and ignored). In this workshop, Carol Holder will share some of the approaches that faculty in different disciplines have found successful. Participants may also share what they have tried themselves, revealing what has worked and what hasn't. This workshop will be useful to faculty in any discipline, at any rank, full-time or part-time, new faculty as well as those on campus many years.
