Using Humor to Reduce Stress in the Classroom

This one-unit class will focus on how humor and other techniques can be used to relieve stress in the classroom for both the teacher and the students. This course includes three elements: Stress Management in the Classroom For You and Your Students, Humor Activities For Your Classroom, and Fun Learning Resources That You Might Find Useful.

Can a happy classroom improve the learning environment? Can various techniques be used to reduce the instance of student misbehavior, increase learning, and improve retention? Many studies say that these techniques are dramatically successful.

Various types of media will be used including TV, books, cartoons, magazines, scientific journals, music, Chinese fortune cookies and rubber chickens, to demonstrate how to use humor and show how its overall impact improves classroom performance and reduces stress. Scientific studies will be shared and discussed to determine if the results are scientifically based or only good for a laugh. Class discussion and analysis will be a critical part of the course.

Ideal for elementary, middle, high school, and college instructors.
