Summer Session Information for Students

Summer Session occurs in the nine-week period between June 11 – August 10, 2018. The time frame provides an excellent opportunity to pursue one or two classes intensively, without interruptions and demands of other classes or campus activities. Students earn resident credit for Summer Session classes which are open to matriculated Fresno State students as well as to the public.

The Division of Continuing and Global Education has authored this list of student FAQs for Summer Session. This sheet is available for your reference and general guidance. CGE reserves the right to modify information and correct errors without notice. 

When will the Summer Session schedule be released?

The tentative Schedule of Courses will be released in late January, 2018.

Who can register for Summer Session classes?

Anyone who is at least 18 years of age can register as long as they meet the minimum class requirements. Fresno State students, students from other CSU campuses, students at other colleges and universities, and community members are all welcome to register. Some classes have restricted enrollment and require permission from the instructor or a department office before registration.

When can I register for Summer Session classes?

Early Registration opens on March 19, 2018 and runs until April 16 Students have until April 16 to pay Early Registration fees.

Late Registration opens on April 17 for all remaining Summer Session seats. Late Registration fees are due with 24 hours of registration, no exceptions.

How long are Summer Session classes?

The instructor and/or their department office determine class length. Some classes are condensed into a few days, while others meet over a period of several weeks. 

Can I take an online class if I do not plan to be in the Fresno area during Summer Session?

Possibly, but students who are planning to be out of the Fresno area should contact the instructor well in advance to confirm that they will not need to be on campus for any class activities. The instructor has full discretion to arrange class meetings, field trips, exams, or other activities that require a student’s physical presence. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they can attend any mandatory activities.

Your instructor’s name is attached to the class in the MyFresnoState portal. You may find their contact information in the Fresno State Directory. If your instructor is not listed in the Directory, contact their department office.

When are Summer Session fees due?

Students who register during the Early Registration period must pay fees by April 16. After April 16, students with unpaid fees will be disenrolled. Students who register during the Late Registration period must pay within 24 hours after registering for the class.

What happens if I am dropped from my Summer Session class for nonpayment?

You may re-register for the same class (or the wait list) if seats are still available, or you may register for a different class.

Is Financial Aid available during Summer Session?

Financial aid may be available for matriculated students enrolled in a minimum of 6 units during May-June Intersession and/or Summer Session. Summer Interest Forms will be available in the Financial Aid Office in Spring 2018 (availability and due dates TBD).

What happens when a Summer Session course is cancelled?

Courses are sometimes cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. Cancellation decisions will be made on May 23-24, 2018. If your course is cancelled, you will receive a full tuition refund, which you can use to enroll in a different Summer Session course if you wish. 

When and where will my Summer Session grades be posted?

Your grades will be posted on your MyFresnoState account, just as they are during the fall and spring semesters. Grades are usually available within two weeks of the last day of class.

What is the difference between May-June Intersession and Summer Session?

May-June Intersession classes are offered only during the first three weeks after the end of the spring semester (May 21 – June 8, 2018), while Summer Session classes are offered during the following nine weeks (June 11 – August 10, 2018). Both sessions offer open enrollment for Fresno State students, students from other universities, and community members.

Will a Summer Session class count toward my degree?

Summer Session classes fulfill residence credit requirements and are applicable toward Fresno State degree programs. Students should always check with advisors to make sure their classes are applicable to their degree programs.

Where do I purchase my Summer Session books?

The Kennel Bookstore will offer Summer Session books.

Do I need a parking permit for Summer Session?

Yes, parking permits are available for purchase from the Traffic Operations office. For more information, click here.

How do I obtain support services for a disability?

What campus and student services will be available during Summer Session?
