Intersession Information for Faculty
Why Teach an Intersession Class?
Instructors are able to earn additional salary by teaching an Intersession course. Intersession also provides an opportunity to teach a special interest course.
When is Intersession?
Winter Intersession
December 27, 2011 - January 10, 2012 (10 available days of instruction; more if classes are held on Saturdays). January 2, 2012 is a university holiday.
May-June Intersession
May 21-June 8, 2012 (14 available days of instruction; more if classes are held on Saturdays). May 28, 2012 is a university holiday.
Timeline for Winter Intersession 2012
- Course proposal forms are due to CGE by August 26, 2011
- Course list and course description available to students October 17, 2011
- Registration—October 31-December 1, 2011 (fees due December 1.) Online registration is encouraged for up to the minute class availability and confirmation of enrollment.
- Freeze enrollments December 2-5, 2011
- Go/No-Go published—December 6, 2011
- For classes that start in December, registration will re-open December 6 through December 23 for classes with space still available; however, all fees must be paid within 24 hours of registration.For classes that start in January, registration will re-open from December 6 through the first class meeting; however, all fees must be paid within 24 hours of registration. A $10 late fee will apply for registration after the first day of class. No registrations will be accepted after the second class meeting.
Timeline for May-June Intersession 2012
- Course proposal forms are due to CGE by December 1, 2011.
- Course list and course descriptions available to students March 12, 2012
- Registration—March 19-April 23, 2012 (fees due April 23.) Online registration is encouraged for up to the minute class availability and confirmation of enrollment.
- Freeze enrollments April 24-25, 2012
- Go/No-Go announced—April 26, 2012
- Immediate Pay Registration begins for classes declared a “go”—April 26 through the first day of class. Beginning April 26, Continuing and Global Education payment is due within 24 hours, either pay online or at Joyal Cashier Counter.
Who Can Teach Intersession Classes?
Regular tenure track Fresno State faculty and adjunct faculty approved by the academic department may teach in Intersession. In order to provide equity within a school or college, it is recommended that one-third of the school’s faculty be at the Assistant Professor level, one-third at the Associate Professor level and one-third be at the Full Professor level. Adjunct faculty must possess a Master's degree or higher and have verifiable teaching experience.
