Balance & Fall Screening

Balance & Fall ScreeningEach year, one-third to one-half of the population age 65 and over experience falls. Moreover, half of the elderly people who experience falls do so repeatedly. Falls are the leading cause of injury in older adults. Deterioration of balance is a major cause for falls. Balance screenings can be helpful to

determine risk factors for falling. With proper education and balance re-training programs, medical research has shown that falls are not a normal part of aging and can be prevented to a significant degree. California State University, Fresno has been a leader in this community for the evaluation and treatment of balance disorders. Based on the results from your screening, we may be able to help by maximizing your balance through specific intervention programs and provide proper resources to prevent or reduce falls. If interested in a free balance screening contact the Department of Physical Therapy at 278-2625.
