Eldercise Class
The Fresno State Eldercise Program is an exercise and education program for elders who wish to remain fit and active as they age. Many of the clients have specialized exercise needs related to medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, and joint replacements. Others simply wish to exercise with a congenial group on a regular basis to maintain a fit and healthy state. The program is offered through Global & Extended Education. Participants meet 3 times a week, 51 weeks of each year.
Physical Therapy graduate students are hired to work with the clients and may also participate during classes such as PhTh 127 Growth and Development and PhTh 236 PT Management of Body Systems.

Individual exercise programs are designed to meet the clients' needs for strengthening, aerobic conditioning, and flexibility. Walking, jogging and bicycles are used to improve conditioning. Free activities such as stepping and weight training are used for strengthening. |

Clients learn to self monitor for assessing intensity of exercise. Students and staff also monitor clients to establish goals and to determine responses to the exercise program. |
