Undergraduate Studies/IHRS
Students may declare the major or minor in Interdisciplinary Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (IHRS) at any point in their undergraduate program.
A major in Interdisciplinary Health and Rehabilitation Sciences requires a minimum of 60 units of study, which includes completion of the 30-unit core and one option in Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Occupational Therapy, or Pre-Public Health (30-45 units). The General Education requirement, special course requirements and electives complete a total of at least 121 units, required for the B.S. degree. A minor in IHRS is also available.
The IHRS major requires 30 units of core coursework from several disciplines. This coursework is intended to prepare the student with an interdisciplinary perspective to enter graduate programs in the rehabilitation professions, such as Physical Therapy, occupational therapy and rehabilitation counseling. Core course content includes professional, developmental health, ethical, psychosocial and behavioral issues related to aging, illness, disability and the health care system.
Note: Students may not fulfill option requirements with courses taken to fulfill core requirements.

Course Requirement Change!Kinesiology 118, Fundamentals of Exercise Physiology (3 units) is now required as a pre-professional course for the MPT/DPT. Students must complete this course (or equivalent) prior to beginning the professional MPT/DPT program. Nursing 124, Pharmacology in Nursing (2 units) will not be required. This course is still counted as an elective for the IHRS degree. ***Effective for student entering IHRS Fall 2007. The change does not affect completion of the major for students enrolled in the major, but will be recommended to those already enrolled. The requirements affect students applying to the PT program effective application Fall 2007. |
