Certificate in Cultural Competence for Health Professionals

The standards for Cultural and Linguistic Competency (CLAS) released in 2001 require health providers to acquire and demonstrate cultural competence. Designed to help you meet that requirement, this new program will cover the cultural and linguistic characteristics of residents in the central California area and will provide you an opportunity to explore these other areas:

Cultural Competence in Health Care Settings

Certificate in Fundamentals of Public Health

The Certificate in the Fundamentals of Public Health is designed to educate employees who deal with the public health system. It is a 20-hour interdepartmental program that offers course work in each of the five major disciplines of public health. It is designed to enhance public health knowledge, and the fundamentals of public health. You will have the opportunity to explore:

  • Foundations in Public Health
  • Principles in Health Behavior
  • Applied Epidemiology and Biostatistics
  • Customer Service

Certificate in Public Health Administration

The Certificate in Public Health Administration offers administrative employees the opportunity to develop skills needed in health administration settings. This 24-hour concentrated program presents skill based knowledge of administrative aspects in public health.

  • Basic Principles in Health Administration
  • Advanced Principles in Health Administration
  • Bio-terrorism: A Public Health Perspective for Reducing the Risk
  • Interviewing Skills and Supervisory Training

Who Should Attend

These program will be helpful to nurses, medical doctors, public health workers, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, licensed and unlicensed clinical social workers, rehabilitation counselors, allied health professionals, administrators of agencies delivering health and social services, graduate students in the health field, and any one interested in achieving this knowledge and certificates.

Completion of the Certificate Program

To earn a certificate of completion for any of the certificates above, you must attend all courses stated below each listing. Individual classes may be taken to meet your needs.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) Available:

Each course offers optional CEUs for nurses, certified health education specialists, marriage and family therapists, and licensed clinical social workers. The number of units available is listed after the title of each class.
