MSW Graduate Admissions Application Period is October 1, 2009 through February 2010.

For additional information on our MSW Program please view the most recent California State University, Fresno General Catalog (CSU, Fresno 2008 - 2009 general catalog). The department's university degree program and information can be found under the College of Health and Human Services section; here you will find our Social Work Education Department's course descriptions. This section of the general catalog provides information on the credential program and other possible areas for career opportunities that the work force will be searching for and may be available to you with a Master's in Social Work Education.

This information should answer any questions you may have had regarding our MSW Program. Once you have reviewed the information provided (go to the links) and you would like to make an appointment please call the department office and someone will assist you in making an appointment.

Beginning August 25, 2008 Dr. Jane Yamaguchi will begin seeing students to review their transcripts for clearance of their pre-requisites PRE-REQUISITES LIST FALL 2009. Make sure to bring with you any and all transcripts where you have taken classes/courses.

DEADLINE FOR FALL 2010 MSW ADMISSIONS: FEBRUARY 2010

The first step in applying to the MSW Program is that you must begin the application process at CSU Mentor. This site will provide you with the university (California State University, Fresno) application which you are required to submit prior to completing the MSW Program application. Both applications for the MSW Program are due by the deadline. Once you have completed the university application at CSU Mentor you will be directed to the Social Work Department web site link where you will have access to download the department application.

NOTE:

  • If you have completed and filed your university graduate application at csumentor.edu and were unable to access the program application log in to your account at csumentor.edu and click on the link, "Introduction," in the Need Help? box on the left hand side of the screen. You will find a link to the program application page in the first paragraph of the introduction document.

As stated above your application to the university must be submitted prior to submitting your MSW admissions application packet which must include the following:

  • A COMPLETED Department of Social Work Education MSW Admissions Application
  • Official transcripts or unofficial transcripts from all colleges or universities previously attended
  • At least 3 References (all references MUST be completed on the required forms (DO NOT SUBMIT LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION AS THEY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED).
  • A copy of the receipt or (verification) where you have completed your csumentor.edu application to the university.

The Social Work Department office must receive ALL of the documents mentioned above in order to fulfill all of the university and department admissions application requirements.

The following are instructions on where or how to submit your MSW admissions application packet to the department:

  1. You may deliver the application in person (or by someone you designate) to the department office.
  2. You may mail the application via (regular federal postal mail service, FedEx, or any other form of delivery service of your choice). The application packet must be postmarked no later than the deadline date.

Reference Forms (3 References Required)

In addition to completing and submitting the admissions application, you must also request a minimum of 3 letters of professional /and or academia references. These references must be completed on the "Reference Form 2008" provided to you on the link below. Letters of reference(s) that are not completed on the form are unacceptable. The references could be requested of your present or past employer(s), instructor(s), field supervisor(s), etc. Please do not have your reference(s) mail the form to our department office. The reference form must be completed by them and put in a self-addressed stamped sealed envelope with their signature along the envelope seal. The reference may then decide to personally return the (sealed) completed form to you or he/she can mail the envelope back to you; so that in-turn you will compile all (minimum of 3) references and submit them with your MSW admissions application.

The Admissions Committee of the Department of Social Work Education is guided by the following criteria in evaluating applicants for admission to the graduate program:
