Dr. Fraleigh is the Department’s Undergraduate Advisor. He is the co-author of the just-published Speak Up! An Illustrated Guide to Public Speaking and Freedom of Speech in the Marketplace of Ideas (Bedford/St. Martin’s). He is currently working on a legal communication text and a new book on freedom of expression. Dr. Fraleigh will be teaching Invitational Rhetoric in the Smittcamp Family Honors College program in Spring 2009. He has served as chair of the Freedom of Expression and Legal Communication Interest Group and the Finance Committee for WSCA and as associate editor for Argumentation and Advocacy, Contemporary Argumentation and Debate, and the Free Speech Yearbook. He directed the Barking Bulldogs speech and debate team from 1990 to 2003.
As an undergraduate, Professor Fraleigh had the opportunity to compete for an exceptional group of debate coaches at California State University, Sacramento, qualifying for the 1974-77 National Debate Tournaments. He is a proud University of California Golden Bear, where he served as Associate Editor of the California Law Review in 1979-80.
