The College of Science and Mathematics provides professional training at the undergraduate and graduate levels to serve as a foundation for a career in science or mathematics, to provide preprofessional training in preparation for careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine and other professions or for continued study at the graduate level.
New Dean and Associate Dean for the Fall Semester, 2011
Welcome back for Fall of 2011. This summer has seen many changes in the Dean's Office. Dean Andrew Rogerson has left to become Provost at Sonoma State; Associate Dean Fraka Harmsen is now Dean of the College of Natural Sciences at Chico State. We wish them well in their new positions.
Dr. Andrew Hoff, Dean of Health and Human Services is currently serving as our interim Dean. Dr. Rick Zechman is our new Associate Dean. They can both be reached by calling the Dean's Office at 278-3936.
We will be making the appropriate changes to all parts of the web site over the next few weeks.
The CSM is now on Facebook and Twitter
For the very latest announcements about activities in the CSM please visit the CSM sites on Facebook-CSM and Twitter-CSM. You don't have to join either of these services to see the postings, just click and take a look. These postings are maintained daily by Teresa for the Dean's Office, so the information will be current.

College Academic Annual Assembly
The College of Science and Mathematics held its 2011 College Academic Annual Assembly on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, in the Science 2 Building Courtyard from 4-6 p.m.
Dr. Constance Jones and Amber Candido, the Outstanding Undergraduate from Psychology, are honored by Dean Rogerson and assembled faculty, family and friends.

May 23, 2011: Science Undergraduate/Graduate Research Experience Program (SUGREP) Receives Additional Funding.

We received another $5,000 from the California HealthCare Foundation on May 23, 2011 to continue the Science Undergraduate/Graduate Research Experience Program (SUGREP) at Fresno State. SUGREP gives students the opportunity to conduct research on campus to help them pursue careers in science or make them competitive for placement within postgraduate and medical school programs.
On April 14, 2010, the new Science and Health Careers Information Center opened in the Science Building, Room 136. In November of 2010 they launched a new web site at http://www.csufresno.edu/shcic
The Grand Opening of the Science and Health Careers Information Center. Call them at 278-4150 for preprofessional advising.
A 1.4 Million Dollar grant has been awarded to create the Geoscience Mentoring, Education, Teaching Research and Outreach (METRO) Center at Fresno State.
The project director is Dr. Alam Hasson of the Chemistry Department, an expert in air quality monitoring. The center will combine the efforts of multiple departments in the geosciences and regional community colleges. On May 6, 2009, at the College Academic Assembly, Aaron Rios, Senior Manager for Public Affairs for Wal-Mart, presented a $50,000 donation to support the Science and Mathematics Education Center in the College. President John Welty and Dean Andrew Rogerson are shown accepting this donation. The University and the College are very grateful to Wal-Mart for their generous support of our efforts to recruit and train more Science and Mathematics teachers for grades K-12. Sculpture Installed in Science II Building
A sculpture called “The Column” now stands in
the lobby of the Science II building. The artist is Dr. Richard Haas, Sculptor,
Photographer and Professor Emeritus of Biology at California State University,
Fresno. Each of the four panels expresses a major theme from the biological
sciences. The dedication was held on January 22, 2009. For more information
