Annually the Institute for Family Business solicits nominations from the community for the California Family Business Awards. From those nominations, selected families are interviewed and are honored at a dinner event. After all interviews have been completed, the committee and advisory board select the Top Award winners. The Top Award winners are sent to be reviewed by three out of state judges and they select the California Family Business Award Winner. All Top Award winners and the recipient of the California Family Business Award are announced at the dinner. Periodically a special Rising Star Award is given. This award recognize a newer family business (run by Gen 1 or 2), have been in business for 5+ years, with their headquarters located in the Central Valley and who the judges believe is a role model for others to follow.
We strongly urge nominees and finalists of years past to resubmit their nomination for the California Family Business Award, especially if a significant development or event has produced noteworthy positive outcomes in their family and/or business development.
We invite you to help us honor and recognize the many achievements of family businesses in our valley. You can do this by nominating a valley-family based business.

Qualifying nominees for the California Family Business Award must have two or more family members in the day-to-day business and have been in business for at least five years. After 2004, award categories were combined into one overall winner for the California Family Business Award. We have many noteworthy and respectable family businesses that deserve to be recognized; therefore, past winners (after 2004) are not eligible for re-nomination. Finally, all eligible organizations must have their "Corporate office" located in California and must have a significant presence in the Central Valley.
