Departmental Scholarships

NEW 2017!  Richard Allen Rockwell Memorial Scholarship

 This scholarship supports undergraduates who are declared Biology majors, enrolled as full-time students, and who intend to pursue careers related to biology. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendations, one from a current or former Fresno State faculty member and one from someone outside the University. Recipients must have a junior standing or higher (having earned at least sixty units) and have a minimum 3.0 Fresno State cumulative GPA.
The recipient shall receive a $2,000 scholarship for the academic year which shall be equally divided between the fall and spring semester. The second semester of funding requires the recipient to complete twelve units with a 3.00 GPA during the first semester of the award.

Doris F. Falk Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship has been established for the perpetuation of the memory of Doris Falk, a professor of the Biology Department at Fresno State from 1956 until her retirement in 1972. Applicants must be undergraduate students majoring in a biological science degree offered by the Department of Biology and be graduating with a Bachelor's degree the semester the scholarship is awarded with a minimum 3.90 GPA.

Floyd L. R. Burks Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established to aid needy and deserving students enrolled in premedical courses.

Fly Fishers for Conservation Scholarship
This scholarship is open to students who demonstrate the motivation and desire to achieve a degree within the College of Science and Mathematics. First preference will be given to those who express an interest in a field of research that will benefit Central California cold water streams supporting various trout species. If there are no available candidates that meet that preference, then the scholarship committee can select a student interested in studying fish, fish habitats or another closely related area of environmental science. A minimum $500 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student. Minimum GPA for this award is a 2.5 or greater.

George Van Vleet Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to worthy students majoring in Biology.

Gina Arce Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to students who demonstrate the motivation and desire to achieve a Biology degree within the College of Science and Mathematics. The student must be enrolled full-time with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Lewis and Virginia Eaton - Pre-Med Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Glendale Federal Bank to support a student preparing for a career in medicine. Scholarships shall be awarded to a student majoring in any field in preparation for admission to medical school.

Liliane D. Wells Scholarship
Awarded to deserving Botany or Biology students with a demonstrated financial need.

Lorraine Wiley Scholarship
A Scholarship shall be awarded to a deserving full-time student who has demonstrated overall excellence and accomplishment in pursuit of studies in biology. Applicants must have a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 earned over the last year of academic instruction, or a GPA of 3.0 earned for the entire bachelor's degree. The student must demonstrate the motivation and desire to achieve a biology degree within the College of
Science and Mathematics.

McCoy Award in Botany
Established by Tri-Beta, given to an outstanding senior student who plans to do graduate work in botany.

Outstanding Graduating Biology Student
Alumni and friends of the Department of Biology have established a scholarship fund to award a graduating student based upon a high level of academic achievement with significant extracurricular endeavors contributing to the field of biology and to the department in particular.

Peter and Edna Grilione Memorial Scholarship in Environmental Biology
Scholarships shall be awarded to any student in the College of Science and Mathematics who has a stated or demonstrated interest in pursuing studies in the field of environmental biology. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and enrolled part-time or full-time at Fresno State. Preference shall be given to individuals who demonstrate creative potential in the discipline and who creatively and actively pursue studies in environmental biology.

Russell T. Bell Scholarship
The family and friends of Russell T. Bell have made available a scholarship to senior or graduate Biology students majoring in Limnology.

Schiff Family Scholarship
The Schiff Family is making available scholarships to junior and senior level undergraduate students who are enrolled on a full-time basis in the College of Science and Mathematics. First priority will be given to those majoring in pre-medicine with the desire to pursue a career in the field of medicine.
