National Institutes of Health (NIH) is extremely interested in developing biomedical research projects in the areas of health and health disparity. In 2008, the University was one of 19 universities in the country that was awarded a $4.5 million research grant by the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, which is part of NIH. This grant is funding a state-of-the-art laboratory for biomedical research that is located in Science I, Room 18.

"It gives us a whole suite of tools to really allow us to move forward with the cutting-edge technologies." . . . Dr. Alejandro Calderon-Urrea, Fresno State Biology professor.

"Securing this grant allows us to develop biomedical research facilities and acquire instruments on par with any other world-class research institution." . . . Dr. Krish Krishnan, Chemistry professor.
