Michael Karbassi
Personal
Statement:Having been born and raised in Fresno, I have a natural
attachment to our community. This is reinforced by my experience
here, as a Fresno State Bulldog. I can feel the spirit, whether I’m
in the Student Union or attending a game.
I am a business major and my previous experience in AS is through
the Finance committee. Recently, I was a candidate for Fresno City
Council. Although I did not win, I proved that I am committed to
helping others. That’s what the Fresno Bee, Fresno’s city employees,
and even Fresno State’s city councilman Brad Castillo saw in me.
2. What would you hope to accomplish during your term?
As your elected President, I will always serve as a reminder to AS
that its’ primary purpose is to represent the student body.
Regardless of any external factors, such as academic standing,
major, etc., AS's primary purpose is to serve ALL students. My door
will always be open for you to voice your opinion.
Along with addressing student’s issues and being a great motivator,
I will also work to expand our community-wide role. Fresno State
students are a big part of the Fresno and Clovis Area. I will make
sure that our voice is heard at City Hall.
3. What are the three biggest concerns facing Associated Students
and/or the students, and what would you do to address them?
I believe that the three biggest concerns facing students at Fresno
State are:
- Parking
- Class availability
- Tuition increases
These are issues that affect all students including myself. I
understand the frustration we feel when we’re late for class and
can’t find a parking space. I also feel our frustration when we’re
registering for classes and find classes are already full or
canceled. As President of AS, I will act as your chief advocate. I
will always be there to voice the student opinion. I will work with
university committees and the Academic Senate to address our issues. |
