Geomatics Engineering Program

Welcome!

The Geomatics Engineering Program is part of the Department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering and Construction Management. Geomatics Engineers serve society by collecting, monitoring, archiving and maintaining our national spatial infrastructure. Geomatics systems include: real property boundary determination, aerial and digital mapping, land and geographic information systems (LIS/GIS), geodesy and geodetic surveying (GPS), remote sensing, environmental and resource mapping, Geomatics applications programming, project management, route design and construction location. While learning how to use a vast array of Geomatics tools a solid theoretical grounding prepares you for a recession proof Geomatics engineering career.

Program Activities

Students have numerous opportunities to increase their professional awareness and supplement their leadership skills. Active participation in the Fresno State Surveying and Photogrammetry Student Association (SPSA), ACSM, CLSA or ASPRS is encouraged. Students have the opportunity to become a committee chair or overall chairperson for the Annual Fresno Geomatics Conference. Student writers for the Fore Sight! magazine reach out to thousands of professionals twice a year.      Excellent summer job opportunities abound in the public and private sector throughout California and the nation. Students may get involved with faculty sponsored research or volunteer to help an upper class-person conduct his or her senior project. Geomatics engineering studentThe curriculum provides a unique blend of practical and theoretical knowledge. Laboratories support most of the classes. Students are immediately valuable to prospective employers ensuring that you obtain a professional, career focused job when you graduate. Graduates report excellent earnings growth and careers that continually lead to more responsible leadership roles. While many graduates have found work in the public sector or with utilities, most graduates find exciting careers in the private sector with small, medium or large engineering or surveying firms. While one such organization has employed over 20 Fresno surveying graduates, many small surveying firms have more than 50% Fresno graduates. All graduates find professional jobs. Most graduates obtain professional licensure.
