Scholarships

The Lyles College of Engineering offers numerous scholarships to both incoming and continuing students. In addition to these scholarships, students may also apply for scholarships offered by many companies and engineering and construction management professional organizations.

The College's Honors Scholarships provide full in-state tuition and fees for selected students - up to four years for first time freshmen, and up to two years for transfer students.

Click here for the University Scholarship Application form. Students must fill out the online scholarship application form in order to be considered for a scholarship. Applications are typically due in February. Honors applications have an earlier deadline. Decisions on University Scholarships are made once a year during the Spring semester.

The following scholarships are available for Lyles College of Engineering students:

  • American Public Works Association
    Awarded to students who intend to work in the field of Public Works and majoring in a related area: i.e., Public Administration, Engineering, Business, and Industrial Technology.
  • The BreadBoard Award
    Awarded to upper division students in Electrical Engineering. High school graduation from a high school in Kern, Kings, Tulare, Fresno, Madera or Merced Counties. Preference to be given to transfer students from California Community Colleges meeting HS graduation and residence requirements.  Students transferring from other universities also to be eligible, provided that the applicants meet HS graduation requirements.
  • Harry L Bahr Engineering
    Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in the School of Engineering.
  • Michael L. Betrand Memorial Scholarship
    This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore or junior with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 who is pursuing a degree in geomatics. Special consideration is given to students from Kern County, or students who demonstrate leadership among their peers and/or involvement in related geomatic organizations.
  • Charles Buckley Engineering
    Awarded to students majoring in Engineering.
  • The Shyhming Chang Scholarship
    Awarded to a student in their junior year who has successfully completed Dynamics in Machine Design or Advanced Mechanics of Materials, and who has shown overall excellence in their pursuit of a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Robert & Norma Craig Engineering
    Awarded to students pursuing studies in the: School of Engineering, the Sid Craig School of Business, School of Education and Human Development, and the Division of Graduate Studies (within any school or department).
  • Peter & Edna Grilione Memorial Mechanical Engineer
    Family and friends of Peter J. Grilione established this gift to award students majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
  • George P. Hanna, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
    This scholarship is awarded to a student who has successfully completed coursework in civil engineering with an emphasis in environmental engineering. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate an interest in the field of environmental engineering and the related professional activities of the civil engineering program.
  • Francis Higgins Memorial Scholarship
    Awarded to a sophomore or junior who has successfully completed coursework in civil engineering with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The student must also demonstrate an interest in civil engineering.
  • Joseph J. S. Kao Structural Engineering
    Awarded to senior graduate level students majoring in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in the School of Engineering and Computer Science.
  • The King & Kit Luk Memorial Scholarship
    Awarded to a student, who has successfully completed coursework in structural engineering, demonstrated outstanding moral character, and overall excellence in the field of structural engineering.
  • Chester & Gladys Melikian Student Scholarship
    Awarded to a junior who has successfully completed coursework in electrical, computer, mechanical, or industrial engineering, who also demonstrates financial need and outstanding moral character. The student must also demonstrate interest in the field of mechanical, electrical, computer or industrial engineering.
  • Leon S. Peters Endowment-Engineering
    Awards scholarships to junior and senior class level students who are citizens of the United States majoring in Engineering.
  • Leon S. Peters Engineering
    $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to students who are citizens of the United States majoring in Engineering who are judged to be... "most likely to succeed."
  • James A. Ross Memorial
    Established by Stephen Weber in memory of his uncle, James A. Ross, the gift provides scholarships for a student(s) from the Counties of Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare, majoring in Civil Engineering or Surveying. Financial need and/or student's motivations are to be given due consideration.
  • Doug Walker
    Awarded to a full-time student majoring in Civil Engineering. Preference is given to students of northern European background born in Fresno County.
  • Associated General Contractors
    Awarded to students who are past or present members of the AGC Student Chapter and have indicated a desire to be involved in AGC type construction fields after graduation.
  • Beavers Heavy Construction Engineering
    $1,000 is awarded to a junior or senior who is a U.S. citizen majoring in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
  • Don Brown Memorial
    Awarded to students majoring in Construction Management with emphasis in Heavy Construction.
  • W. D. Coates Memorial
    Established by Mrs. W.D. Coates of Fresno to award students interested in Architectural careers.
  • Dean R. Shore Memorial
    Established by family, friends and employees the fund awards scholarships to junior or senior students majoring in Construction Management related field.
  • Geomatics Engineering Honors
    Qualified high school graduates have the opportunity to immediately pursue an accredited 4-year Surveying degree at a nationally recognized surveying education center of excellence.
  • Los Angeles County Foundation of Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors Scholarship
    Awarded to a student enrolled as a geomatics engineering major who has completed their sophomore year with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. The student must also be a member of at least one geomatics engineering related professional organization.
  • Stephen R. Thumlert Memorial Scholarship
    Awarded to a deserving geomatics student who is a sophomore or junior with a minimum GPA of 2.75.
