Dr. Kevin Miller is an Assistant Professor of Forensic Biochemistry at the California State University, Fresno. He earned a B.S. degree from Cornell University (1985), an M.S. degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (1987) , and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom (1996), where he studied human genetic variation and the molecular genetic analysis of human remains. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Human Morphometrics Laboratory in the Department of Anthropology, University of California at Santa Barbara. Dr. Miller has over 10 years experience working in local and state and federal crime laboratories, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Forensic Science Service, U.K., and has consulted widely throughout the United States and abroad, and has testified in many criminal trials.
Dr. Miller teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in biochemistry, as well as graduate courses in forensic science. In addition, he directs undergraduate projects and graduate thesis research. Dr. Miller's work includes DNA typing of skeletonized human remains and highly degraded tissues, use a sanctioned biomolecules in archaeological and anthropological investigations, and public understanding of scientific principles and courtroom proceedings.

Dr. Yu Cao is an assistant professor of computer science at the California State University, Fresno. Before assuming his current position in 2007, he was a visiting fellow of biomedical engineering at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. He received his B. Eng. degree from Harbin Engineering University, China, in 1997, and an M. Eng. Degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, in 2000. He received a second Masters degree and Ph.D. degree (2007) in computer science from the Iowa State University. Dr. Powell's research interests span a variety of aspects of image processing, computer vision, computer graphics, and multimedia databasing. He has collaborated with researchers from Iowa State University, the Mayo Clinic, and the University of North Texas to develop the first intelligent multimedia system to analyze, retrieve, and visualize important contents in an endoscopy videos. His research work has appeared in first-rate conferences in top journals such as IEEE Transactions. He is a member of ACM, IEEE, and Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE).

Dr. Peter English is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology at the California State University, Fresno, where he has taught courses such as Psychology of Crime, Homicide, Criminal Legal Processes, Juvenile Delinquency, and Social Science in Litigation. He was formally a Visiting Scholar in the Department of count at the University of Arizona. Dr. English has published and continues to conduct research on topics related to psychology, public policy, and law. He has recently co-authored a book entitled “More Than the Law: Behavioral and Social Facts in Legal Decision-Making (2005), with Bruce D. Sales, Ph.D., J.D., published by the American Psychological Association. He is currently completing another book with Dr. Sales and Calvin Morrill of the University of California at Irvine called Law and Society. This book, also under contract with the American camp that Association, is scheduled to be published in 2009. Dr. English worked previously at the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field Naval Air Station in the Office of Space Human Factors and in the Cognition Laboratory. He has published and presented nationally on topics related to attention, visual search, and information processing. Dr. English has served as an editorial assistant on the journal Psychology, Public Policy, and Law where he also serves as an ad hoc reviewer. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, American Psychology-Law Society, and the Association for Psychological Science.

Dr. Roger LaJuenesse received his Ph.D. in Physical Anthropology from Washington State University in 1974. He has been at the California State University, Fresno, since this time, serving as chairman of the Department of Anthropology from 1980 – 1983 and again from 1995 – 2007. He has served as Corner’s Investigator for Fresno County since 1977, and also consults widely throughout Mariposa, Madera, Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Tulare, and Santa Clara counties. He has also acted as a consultant for the Public Defender's Office in Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, and Los Angeles counties, and for the Federal Public Defender's Office in Fresno, Sacramento, and Los Angeles counties, as well as Erie, Pennsylvania. Dr. LaJuenesse also serves as a forensic consultant to the Fresno and Ripon offices of the California Bureau of Investigation, California Department of Justice. He has been court qualified as an expert on the subjects of human identification, surveillance video analysis, the aging of children, footprints, blunt force trauma, gunshot wounds, and cut marks.

Ms. Scott graduated from California State University, Fresno, in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Criminology. She has spent two years in the laboratory working on the identification of proanthocyanidins through the use of spectrophotometry and HPLC.
