Hello, my name is John Patrick ().  I put this site together because I am interested in learning about traditional drinking songs.  This stems from my interest in the bawdy drinking toasts which seem to have survived but rarely talked about or mentioned.  This search for drinking toasts gave me a large collection of rare books & booklets with songs in them.  So since early 2003, I have been investigating these songs.  This website is my contribution to the study of folklore found in the drinking context -- much of which is bawdy.

The first item that got me seriously interested in songlore was a little song booklet titled The National Engineering Book of Song and Verse.  After purchasing this booklet on eBay, I tracked down Ed Cray, author of the Erotic Muse and premiere researcher of bawdy songs in America, and offered him the booklet.  The same night I emailed Ed Cray I went bar hopping with the booklet in my pocket and ran into two women who were formerly in the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.  I showed them the booklet and they said they knew many of the songs and also knew many songs from their sorority which were secret.  They wouldn't share any with me at the time but said I may be able to get them drunk enough so that they would share a few.  So far no luck with these two but see my field collection from a DG and a ChiO.

If you have any manuscripts, ephemera or early books related to drink-lore (especially the bawdy stuff!), please feel free to email me at .

Sincerely,

John Patrick
