TEACHING
Dr. Hunsaker teaches Natural Science 115 (Environmental, Earth and Life Science), Earth and Environmental Sciences EES 103B (Atmospheric Science) and EES 167 (Oceans, Atmosphere and Climate). He also serves as the Director of the Institute of Climate Change, Oceans and Atmosphere at CSUF. He has also served as an instructor in environmental law for the State of California . Other teaching interests include 21 st Century Approaches to Environmental Management (industrial ecology, sustainable development, biomimetics, and life cycle assessment), environmental impact assessment, and chemistry. RESEARCH Dr. Hunsaker is an interdisciplinary atmospheric scientist whose interests encompass atmospheric modeling, air pollutant emissions controls, public education, air pollution law and policy, and meteorology, as related to regional air pollution and global climate change. Dr. Hunsaker has conducted atmospheric modeling, source testing, ambient air sampling, and air emission compliance inspections. He led the development of several long-range plans to attain healthy air quality in the San Joaquin Valley by dates specified in state and federal law. Dr. Hunsaker's research interests also include emerging approaches to ensuring economic growth with environmental quality improvements. These topics include industrial ecology, sustainable development, biomimetics, and life cycle assessment. Projects in these areas include development of a biomimetics research program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, creation of a neural net/genetic algorithm program for predicting toxicity of chemicals used in commerce, and development of design support tools to advise industrial designers on the environmental impacts of materials choices for new products. Dr. Hunsaker is a Certified Environmental Professional ( Academy of Board Certified Environmental Professionals , No. 91031937). He is past President of the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP), and is currently a member of NAEP, the American Chemical Society, and the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors.
