Mary E. Husain
M.A., Communication

Mary Husain will be completing her M.A. degree with a 4.0 GPA and is applying to the Joint Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership at Fresno State. As a graduate student, she co-authored two research papers that were accepted for publication. The first, a chapter in the book "Cancer Care and Communication," is the first publication in the discipline examining communication practices between children with cancer, their families and health care providers. Her research in the area is tied to the cancer diagnosis and subsequent death of her daughter several years ago. Her second publication analyzes American media representations of Islamic veiling practices following September 11, 2001, an interest tied to her own life experience. Active in service-learning, she also is a member of the University High School board of directors.
