2006 PHYLLIS WATTS EUDY AWARD FOR THE OUTSTANDING
INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE STUDENT
Rosvita Krahn
M.S., Rehabilitation Counseling
In memory of Graduate Dean Emerita Phyllis Watts Eudy and her commitment to bringing talented international students to our campus, a fund was established to recognize an outstanding international graduate student. The 2006 Eudy Award winner is Rosvita Krahn.
Rosvita came to Fresno State as a Fulbright Scholar from her home country of Paraguay. She began work in the Rehabilitation Counseling master's program in spring 2004 and right away, her professors characterized her as a young woman of compassion, integrity, and outstanding work ethic. In Paraguay, she developed a passion for disadvantaged children involved with drugs and alcohol whom she said are "ignored by society." Acting on this passion, she opened a daycare center for poor children in her home country, which is still operating today. Yet she still felt ill prepared to make a difference, which is why she chose Fresno State to further her studies. In addition to excelling in her classroom work, in which she has earned nearly straight A's, Rosvita has spent her last three semesters volunteering at a drug and alcohol addiction treatment center for women.
Upon receipt of her master's degree, Rosvita plans to return to Paraguay and begin working with an international relief organization like UNICEF or USAID, which will open doors for her to continue working with the poor and disadvantaged. Rosvita is and will continue to be an excellent ambassador for the Rehabilitation Counseling program and our university, and it is an honor to present her with the 2006 Phyllis Watts Eudy Memorial Award.
