Claude Laval Jr. Award

This year's recipient of the Claude Laval Jr. Award for Innovative Technology and Research is Junya Kasahara, graduate student in the Department of Physics. The award of $2,000 will be used to defray expenses for a project titled "Mapping the Large Scale Structure of the Universe with Hierarchical Image Segmentation." Congratulations to Junya and his faculty mentor, Dr. Frederick Ringwald.

 

 

Robert and Norma Craig Fellowships

The Craig Fellowships are designed to foster graduate students' scholarly development by working on a project with an experienced faculty mentor. The faculty member also benefits, receiving assistance related to the project, or assigning duties to the fellow that gives the mentor more time to devote to their own professional projects.

Congratulations to the recipients of the Robert and Norma Craig Fellowships for Fall 2003. Each student will receive up to $1000.

Faculty Mentor: Saeed Attar
Project: Set-up, testing, and calibration of the "CombiFlash" chromatography system recently acquired by the Chemistry Department.

Stephen Barile (MFA, Creative Writing)
Faculty Mentor: Corrinne Hales
Project: "Poetry in Motion" program: Designing, creating, and placing poetry posters on Fresno City buses.

Crystal Johnson (MA, Kinesiology)
Faculty Mentor: Jenelle Gilbert
Project: In-depth analysis of interviews of 20 elite female team sport athletes to identify relevant themes.

Christopher McColm (MA, History)
Faculty Mentor: Michelle Den Beste
Project: Set up a history writing/tutoring center.

Amy Eilean McRae (MA, Kinesiology)
Faculty Mentor: Wade Gilbert
Project: Comprehensive literature review of books on sport coaching, as part of a proposal to prepare a college-level textbook.
