COLLEGE OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES
Janet M. Blea, M.A., Communicative
Disorders -- Speech Language Pathology
Janet Blea was diagnosed with diabetes at the
age of 12 and because of complications lost her eyesight in 1996
at the age of 29. When some of her sight was restored, she enrolled
in the Speech Language Pathology program at Fresno State. Complications
brought kidney failure, and she currently is on the National Kidney
Transplant list awaiting a new kidney and pancreas. Despite her
medical challenges, Janet earned a bachelor's degree in 1999 and
now a master's degree, both with highest honors. She received a
research grant award in 2001 and was a student clinician at the
Fresno State Speech and Hearing Clinic in spring 2002. She also
has worked full time since March as a speech-language pathologist
with Standard School District in Bakersfield.
