UPCOMING AWARD DEADLINES
CHANCELLOR'S DOCTORAL INCENTIVE/FORGIVABLE LOAN PROGRAM
Applications are now being accepted for the 2006/2007 Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive/Forgivable Loan Program. The program provides financial assistance to graduate students and is designed to increase the pool of individuals who show promise of becoming strong candidates for CSU instructional faculty positions. It is a competitive program directed by the CSU but open to doctoral students across the country. For information and an application, visit the CSU Forgivable Loan website: <www.calstate.edu/HR/FLP> or contact the Fresno State campus administrative support coordinator: Chuck Radke, Division of Graduate Studies, Thomas Administration, room 132, 278-2448 or <cradke>. The filing deadline for applications to be received in the Division of Graduate Studies is the close of business (5:00 p.m.), Friday, February 17.
UNIVERSITY GRADUATE MEDAL
Nominations are being sought from the college and school deans and the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students for the 2006 University Graduate Medalist. A nominee for this recognition must be the candidate selected to receive the College or School Dean's Medal as the outstanding graduate student. Nominations from the deans and the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students are due in the Division of Graduate Studies office by Monday, April 3 . For further information, contact your dean's office.
GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH MERIT AWARD
The application deadline for the Graduate Student Research Merit Award is Friday, March 17 . Applications are available in the Division of Graduate Studies, Thomas Administration Building, room 132. These $1,000 awards are provided for meritorious graduate student research proposals associated with the thesis/project/dissertation requirement. For more information or to request an application, contact Helen Martinez at 278-2448 or helenma.
CALIFORNIA PRE-DOCTORAL PROGRAM
The California Pre-Doctoral Program is designed to increase the diversity of the pool from which the CSU draws its faculty. It does so by supporting the doctoral aspirations of CSU students who have experienced economic and educational disadvantages. Over the past 14 years our selected scholars have entered doctoral programs at highly acclaimed universities throughout the U.S. Selected students ($2,000) and their faculty sponsor ($1,000) receive funding to travel to doctoral institutions and professional conferences, and for other selected activities that would increase their acceptance into doctoral study.
In an effort to increase the pool of applicants, we will be emailing selected groups of upper division undergraduates and graduate students the program announcement and Web access to the eligibility criteria and application. Applications will be available through our Web site and in the Division of Graduate Studies. All applications must be submitted to DGS no later than Thursday, March 30. If you need an application or further information, contact Helen Martinez at 278-2448 or helenma.
OUTSTANDING THESIS AWARD
The Division of Graduate Studies announces the 17th annual Outstanding Thesis Award, in the amount of $1,000. Each academic college/school is invited to nominate one candidate for the award. Theses submitted in summer and fall of 2005 and spring of 2006 are eligible. Graduate faculty are invited to review potential award nominees from their program, and to submit this nomination to their college or school according to the procedures and deadlines established by their respective college or school dean's office. Nomination packets have been distributed to graduate coordinators and deans. Nominations from college/school deans are due in the Division of Graduate Studies by Thursday, April 13 . Your college/school will have an earlier deadline for determining their nominee. For further information, contact your college/school dean's office or the Thesis Office, 278-2418 or cradke.
Please note: If you have a student completing a thesis in Spring 2006 and feel that the work may be worthy of Outstanding Thesis Award consideration, it is crucial that the thesis be completed and approved by the time nominations are due in your dean's office. The Thesis Office will assist in accelerating the approval of a thesis that may be nominated.
PRESIDENT'S GRADUATE SCHOLARS FELLOWSHIPS
Each academic year, President Welty awards two President's Graduate Scholars Fellowships to entering master's degree or Ed.D. students. Each program may nominate one Fall 2006 applicant. Scholars receive $3,500 for their first year of full-time graduate study with the possibility of a second-year award. The deadline for nomination is April 7. For nomination information, contact Helen Martinez at 278-2448 or helenma.
CALIFORNIA GRADUATE EQUITY FELLOWSHIP
Contingent upon the availability of funds, the California Graduate Equity Fellowships with grants up to $4,500 are available for underrepresented graduate students who qualify. This program seeks to increase the diversity of students completing a graduate degree program at California State University, Fresno and encourages continuation on to doctoral programs and consideration of university faculty careers. It provides fellowships for economically disadvantaged graduate students, especially from groups that are underrepresented among graduate degree recipients in their areas of study, and promotes faculty mentoring and research opportunities. The application deadline is Friday, June 2 . For applications or further information, contact Helen Martinez at 278-2448 or helenma.
