~ Writing in the History Classroom ~

A workshop series which provides teachers with explicit instruction to apprentice students in content-based writing.  Training focuses on all writing genres that support the grade level English Language Arts Writing standards and expectations.  Components include:

  • Teaching the use of evidence and analysis in thesis, paragraph and essay development.

  • Explicit instruction in the development of expository explanations and arguments.

Elementary: Note-taking/summary writing, historical narrative, research reports, and persuasive essays.  (8 Hours)

Middle School: Persuasive and expository essays (compare/contrast, problem/solution), note-taking/summary writing.  Special focus is given to supporting STAR writing in the History/Social Science classroom.  (8 Hours)

High School: Expository and persuasive essays.  Special focus is given to supporting CHSEE writing in the History classroom.  (4 Hours)
