Chapter 062

Annual Initiation of Members

  • Initial Contact
    • An invitation will be sent to qualified students during February or March
    • A letter of introduction will give information about Phi Kappa Phi and Chapter 062
    • A RSVP will be requested
    • Upon receipt of the RSVP by the chapter, a letter of acknowledgement will be sent giving the final details along with a pledge ribbon which can be worn through the initiation ceremony and during graduation

  • On the night of the Initiation
    • Each student will be publicly recognized
    • Each student will also be given a pin to be worn on a suite or coat jacket and a medallion which is worn around the neck over the graduation gown.
    • A membership certificate and card will also be presented
  • Initiation Format
    • When each student arrives, he or she must first check-in and register
    • During the period of registration there is an honor's reception for meeting and socializing with members, families, alumni and university administrators, faculty and staff
    • The initiation will be presided over by the chapter president. The President of the university, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs, and all of the deans of the individual schools of the university will be involved in the initiation ceremony
    • Special awards will be presented first
    • Honor initiates, including administrators, alumni, faculty, university staff and students will be inducted
    • Following actual initiation, the ceremony will be closed

  • Our Initiation Goal and Purpose
    • To honor individuals by induction into the national Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
    • To recognize those individuals who have contributed to the academic excellence of Fresno State above and beyond their positions at the university
    • To recognize significant contributions by alumni
    • To publicly recognize students who have excelled academically
    • To further promote academic excellence at Fresno State through the mission and motto of Phi Kappa Phi, and the goals and pledge of the chapter
