TII Project Update - April 2007
The AT&T team assigned to install the Cisco Systems electronics in our telecommunication rooms arrived on campus in March. Their installation work, testing and documentation are going smoothly and on schedule. They have completed the installations in the buildings in Phase 1 and 2 (see list below) and are beginning to work in the Phase 3 buildings this week which is actually a week ahead of schedule. The installation work is basically transparent to the faculty and staff other than perhaps the temporary presence of new faces, boxes and packing materials in the vicinity of the telecommunication rooms.

On April 5th, the migration of servers from the old data center in McKee Fisk to the new data center in MDF-A began. Among the servers moved are those supporting Meeting Maker which is now operating successfully in the new location.
Building cutovers to the new electronics and the new cable system will begin later this month. ITS will begin with a small group of buildings and transition the computers, printers and network devices from the old cable system to the new cable system. Building inhabitants will be notified in advance when their building is going through this process. Additional buildings will be transitioned throughout the summer.
The benefits of this multi-year project include significant increases in network capacity, reliability, availability and security and elimination of the contention that currently causes many of our network performance issues.
