Meeting Maker and Office Scan-Planned Outage Thursday April 5, 12:00-4:00 PM

On Thursday, April 5, between 12:00 and 4:00 PM, ITS staff will be migrating several computer servers from the data center in McKee-Fisk into one of the new MDF data centers built as part of the TII project.

During this time the campus Meeting Maker and Office Scan services will be unavailable. You will be able to use Meeting Maker in offline mode to view your calendar, but you will not be able to receive new or updated meeting invitations. You will also be unable to see others busy time when scheduling or updating meetings.

You may want to print a copy of your day's calendar the morning of April 5 so that you will have a convenient reference while the Meeting Maker service is unavailable. If you require assistance printing your calendar, please contact the campus Help Desk or your local computer technician.

While the Office Scan service is unavailable, your anti-virus software will continue to function but you will not receive updates reflecting new viruses. You will begin to receive these updates again once the service becomes available at or before 4:00 PM.

ITS staff will also be moving other servers during this time, but each of the services involved are delivered by multiple servers and will continue to be available during the migration.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this move, please contact the campus Help Desk at 85000 or you may email me at jim_michael@csufresno.edu.

Thank you for your patience as we begin to take advantage of the enhanced data centers made available through the TII project.

Meeting Maker Upgrade for Daylight Savings Time Cancelled

After reviewing the results of local testing, ITS has determined that our current Meeting Maker system will continue to function correctly without an upgrade for changes in Daylight Savings Time. WIth this in mind, we will not be upgrading Meeting Maker this coming weekend; March 3-4. ITS will be providing information to campus technical staff to assist them in dealing with issues that may arise for individual users of our Meeting Maker system.

On a related note, users of portable electronic devices, including cell phones and PDAs, should check these after the time change to make sure they have updated the time correctly.

Microsoft Vista/Office 2007/IE7 Announcement

Microsoft has begun to ship Windows Vista and Office 2007. Many campus vendors, such as Dell, are starting to ship systems with Windows Vista as the default operating system and Office 2007 as the office productivity package of choice. If you choose to install or purchase these new technologies, you should be aware there are currently multiple issues/problems you may experience.

Information Technology Services is working with our vendors to resolve these problems as quickly as possible and will notify the community as significant progress is made.
Some of the current issue with Vista and Office 2007 are:

  • Campus-supported applications such as Meeting Maker and Trend Micro Anti-Virus software are not currently compatible with Vista.
  • The installation of Vista or Office 2007 will automatically set your default browser to Internet Explorer 7. Internet Explorer 7 does not work with important campus websites like My Fresno State, Blackboard and web-based E-mail.
  • Testing with existing software commonly used on campus has resulted in compatibility issues with older Windows software and Office suites.
  • Vista is resource-intensive. Not all on-campus computers may have enough memory or processing speed to support Vista and may result in unacceptable performance or instability.
  • Not all hardware manufacturers have created compatible peripheral device software for Vista. It is possible that your printer, Personal Digital Assistant or scanners will not function correctly in Windows Vista.
If you do elect to install Vista or Office 2007, please be aware that University Help Desk support is extremely limited during our initial testing and integration phase of Vista.

For more information about Vista, please visit the Microsoft Vista web site at

If you have any questions about the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system or the Office 2007 suite, please call the Help Desk at 278-5000 or visit the ITS Help Center at https://help.csufresno.edu .
