Central Valley Internet
Project (CVIP) offers high-speed, low-cost dial-up Internet
accounts to qualified students, alumni, educators, and government
employees. A CVIP account allows members who have a computer
and modem to send and receive electronic mail, to browse
the World Wide Web (WWW), to listen to audio segments and
view video clips, to participate in Internet news and topic
groups, to upload and download software and files to and
from thousands of computers worldwide, and to create and
maintain their own WWW home pages.
Fresno State students, faculty, and staff
can purchase individual dial-up accounts
for a nominal fee (basic non-graphical electronic
mail accounts are free to all members of
the university community).
In the dorms Freso State Students have the
option of getting a low cost dial up service
from CVIP or LRE (Long
Range Ethernet) connection. LRE allows for
a faster
way for students to conntect to the campus network.
For home users CVIP also offers broadband
that uses DSL connectivity to connect its
users to the Internet. DSL (Digital Subscriber
Line) is an always-on internet connection
that uses your existing phone line to carry
voice and data.
To obtain a CVIP account, call 278-1111, and
press option 1 to speak to billing. Or you can stop by
the lower floor of the bookstore, or the
CVIP office on the northwest corner of
Cedar and Barstow. Billing is open from
9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday.
