The Joint Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership (JDPEL) is the
outcome of close cooperation between key individuals from the University of
California and California State University, Fresno. JDPEL admitted its
first 13 students in fall 1991. The program takes three to
five years to complete and was designed specifically to train future
educational leaders residing in the Central San Joaquin Valley.
Two University Systems and Their Joint Commitment
Faculty selected from the six universities provide JDPEL students access
to a wealth of expertise in areas related to leadership--including
Educational Administration, Education, Anthropology,
Sociology, Business, Psychology, Linguistics, Chicano and Latin American
studies, and Economics. Some 50 specially selected
faculty
members work closely with the program directors to inspire student participants with
new approaches to educational issues.
The Joint Doctoral Program:
- offers instruction by teams of professors from
California State University, Fresno and the
University of California campuses at Davis, Los
Angeles, Riverside, Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara,
- schedules coursework in the evenings and on
weekends to accommodate full-time professionals,
- provides for all coursework to be completed in
Fresno,
- includes coursework for the California Professional
Administrative Services Credential.
NOTE:
Because the Joint Doctoral Program was
established to alleviate the serious needs of
practicing educators in the Central San Joaquin
Valley, applicants from that area are given special
consideration in the application process.
