The suspense builds:
Event center architects share early plans

Photos of people looking over the plans and concepts of the Save Mart Center

Preliminary concepts for the Save Mart Center, featuring a "classic collegiate" design with a California-style tile roof and a 12-story-high clock tower, were presented to the Event Center Advisory Committee of faculty, staff and community on Sept. 17.

The preliminary site plan, bowl configurations and exterior elevations for the center were prepared by Sink Combs Dethlefs of Denver

and Cannon of Los Angeles. The concepts and images will be refined substantially before they are unveiled to the broader campus community and the general public - probably in late October.

The refined architectural images will then be employed in a fund-raising brochure and video tape fly-through. The capital campaign will begin in early November, headed by volunteer co-chairmen Bob Duncan and Ed Kashian.

Architect Don Dethlefs, who presented the design concepts to the advisory committee, said the event center will serve as a bold and attractive gateway to the southeast entry of campus.
