Pacific Gas & Electric Co. donated $10,000 this month to the
School of Engineering and Computer Science and the Central California
Futures Institute (CCFI). PG&E representatives Don Fantz,
Leslie Botos, Gary Hanson and Al Galvez were on campus Tuesday,
Nov. 3, to present a check to President John D. Welty, Dr. Karl
Longley, engineering and computer science dean, and Dr. John Wetzel,
CCFI executive director.
The funds - $7,500 for Engineering and Computer Science and $2,500 for CCFI - will benefit scholarships and several departments and programs on campus, including $1,000 to complete a $5,000 endowment for the Progressive Energy and Technology Scholarship Fund established with the proceeds from last year's Energy Expo, an event co-sponsored by PG&E.
Longley said the support will also aid the Math Engineering and Science Achievement Program. "This support for our programs will help us continue to supply well-prepared engineers for the PG&E workforce, especially in the areas of power generation, power transmission and distribution, and geomatics," Longley added.
Wetzel said CCFI will use the funds to conduct a workshop in 1999 focusing on regional issues in the next 40 years.
