Tark's mark

Coach Jerry Tarkanian, now in his fourth year at Fresno State, coached the 1100th game of his long career and captured his 700th win in major college basketball with the Bulldogs' 86-80 defeat of New Mexico at Selland Arena Jan. 4. A jubilant crowd watched the controversial coach and his team take an early lead against the 15th-ranked Lobos, only to exchange the lead eight times in the second half, and then finally seal the victory in the last two minutes. Tark became the 12th coach in the nation to reach the 700 victory mark. He will face one of the other 11 coaches when the Bulldogs face Lefty Driesell's Georgia State team Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in Selland Arena.
