The mother and son team of Nazik (left) and Arakel Arisian were among nine students recognized in the Sid Craig School of Business's first honors class this month. Arakel, 19, is studying finance while mom, Nazik, 41, is seeking a degree in management. They both began their studies at Fresno State in the fall of 1997 and are now seniors.
Nazik worked for 15 years in banking and plans to obtain a master's degree, teach at the community college level and eventually obtain a doctoral degree. Arakel, a Rodman Scholar with a perfect 4.0 GPA, is the Associated Students vice president and hopes eventually to obtain a master's or law degree.
In the three-semester Honors Program, students participate in a weekly Honors Seminar and work closely with their faculty mentors to conduct independent research for an honors thesis that is designed to be of a high quality and potentially publishable, said Julie Olson-Buchanan, program coordinator. The program allows exemplary business students to conduct in-depth intellectual investigations, explore career and academic options, and work with faculty and business leaders.
The other seven Craig honors students are Brian Buchnoff, Silvia
Lopez, Marylou Mendoza, Matthew Nesper, Melissa Price, and Ryan
Wagenleitner.
