The Wall of Fame that will honor educators and friends of education nears completion this month on the Gottschalks Plaza at the entryway to the Education Building, where a sculpture promoting the three Rs will be erected.

The School of Education and Human Development plans to dedicate the wall next fall, complete with many of the approximately 2,000 commemorative bricks that will adorn the structure.

The wall's bricks, which are available for a $100 donation each, will be imprinted with the names of "extraordinary teachers, past and present, and friends of education, past and present, whom people wish to honor," said Lynn Eilefson, the school's development officer.

Eilefson explained that the "Extraordinary Teachers" segment is intended as a commemoration of outstanding teachers who served in schools and on college or university faculties. The "Friends of Education" wall is available to commemorate those who have supported education in some way.

Harris Construction is the Gottschalks Plaza contractor. Additional trees and watering systems were recently added to the plaza in front of the Education Building.

The new sculpture, "The 3 Rs," by local sculptor Clement Renzi, depicts three children reading books and studying. It will be on display in the foyer of the Education Building until it is installed in the plaza. The sculpture was donated by the Educational Employees Credit Union and the Fresno County Office of Education, where an exact replica is located.

Renzi also created "The Three Graces" bronze in front of the Music Building on campus.

For information on donating a brick, contact Eilefson at 278-0249.
