Strategic Plan Progress Report

During the spring 1999 semester, the Strategic Planning Committee completed the review of Milestones #2 reports, which reported on progress made in meeting strategic plan goals as outlined in the university's Plan for Excellence.

Milestones #2 reports were submitted by each division of the university - Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, University Advancement, Administrative Services, Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Office of the President.

Several highlights of the Strategic Planning Committee's discussion of Milestones #2 reports included:

• The importance of aligning school strategic plans with the university's Plan for Excellence and the CSU's strategic planning document - Cornerstones.
• The need to involve faculty in the development of school plans.
• The recommendation to explore mentorship opportunities between alumni and students.
• The need to upgrade and maintain the university's Web pages.
• The ongoing challenge of enhancing campus communication through a variety of sources.
• The excellent progress that has been made in the development of the university's student information system; in particular, the availability of advising information to faculty at the desktop through DARS.
• The improvement in classroom renovations and renovation planning and the excellent consultative relationship which has been established between FACEL and the Division of Administrative Services.

The Strategic Planning Committee is now reviewing programs that were funded by the university's Plan for Excellence during the 1998-99 academic year. Funds were provided for the following initiatives:

• The Smittcamp Family Honors College
• Assigned Time Awards for Faculty
• Research and Scholarly Activities
• Recruitment and Retention of Faculty
• The College for Instructional Innovation
• The Life+Works+Links Project
• Student Recruitment
• Marketing and Communication

During the month of May, the committee will review accomplishments of each of these initiatives.
