Research takes professor into the underworld

With an NCAA championship and a No. 1 ranking in hand, the softball team deplaned at Fresno Yosemite International Airport. Bulldog head coach Margie Wright directed the Bulldogs to their fifth NCAA championship game appearance on May 25 at the 1998 NCAA Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. Wright and assistants Margaret Sutter and Mary Ivy were selected as the 1998 Speedline/NFCA Division I National Coaching Staff of the Year. Leading Fresno State to its first national title in any Division I sport, the three will be honored at the NFCA National Convention in St. Petersburg, Fla., in December.
