California State University's teacher recruitment program, CalTeach, has received funding from two private corporations to conduct an extensive media advertising campaign.

The corporations Aetna Retirement and Edison International - helped fund two 30-second commercials that will run on cable television programs promoting the CSU system's campaign, announced president John Welty during a news conference Sept. 30 at Miguel Hidalgo Elementary School in central Fresno.

The announcement was made simultaneously with one in Sacramento by First Lady of California Sharon Davis and Chancellor Charles B. Reed in the critical campaign to recruit as many as 300,000 new California public school teachers over the next ten years. The new ads began their statewide run Oct. 4

"Through these new ads, we hope recent graduates and professionals changing careers will consider the personal rewards

of teaching," Welty said. The ads target both current students and mid-career professionals considering changing careers.

The ads encourage interested candidates to contact CalTeach a one-stop teacher recruitment, information and referral center administered by the California State University via the CalTeach website (www.calteach.com) or the CalTeach toll-free hotline (1-888-CALTEACH).
