Students looking for a place to do library research, write papers or prepare PowerPoint presentations will benefit from using the Madden Library's Information Competence Center, which offers the resources of a computer classroom.
Located in room 2041, the center has 20 PCs connected to the Web, to ALIS (the library's on-line catalog system) and to dozens of article indexes and databases. Each computer runs Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access and Excel.
The center will be staffed by students who have received special training in the most popular library databases and applications.
"The advantage in using the library's Information Competence Center is that it's staffed by people who know how to find information quickly and efficiently," said Ross T. LaBaugh, coordinator of the library instruction program.
Starting March 6, the center will be open Monday through Thursday
from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
