Honorary doctoral degrees will be conferred by the CSU system and California State University, Fresno on longtime Valley residents Coke and James Hallowell during the commencement ceremonies this May.
The Hallowells, who are both graduates of Fresno State, will receive doctor of humane letters degrees on Saturday, May 20, in Bulldog Stadium.
"Coke and James are two quintessential volunteers who have touched all areas of our community," said President John D. Welty. "The time, guidance and positive direction they have lent to both Fresno State and our community are truly exceptional."
As avid supporters of Fresno State, the Hallowells have been involved in nearly every realm of the university and its programs. The husband and wife team has served in a variety of capacities in business, arts and humanities, education, theatre, athletics, agriculture, science, the library and more. Friends of the Hallowells say the couple frequently opens their home for events and socials to help charitable organizations such as the River Parkway and many other worthy causes. The Hallowells support a wide base of programs that reflect the diversity of the university and the community.
This is the eighth year honorary doctorates have been awarded by the CSU and Fresno State. Previous recipients of the award are Sid Craig, Lee Brown, Vincent Petrucci,
Earl Smittcamp, Robert Duncan, Edward James Olmos, Elmer "Bud"
