Dr. Richard Pinkerton (Marketing), Dr.Carl Pherson (Ag Operations),
and Dr. Gerald Jones (Management) add their voices to sing of
"cardinal and blue."
Fresno State welcomed fresh faces at the New Student Convocation Aug. 31. Faculty members turned out in full regalia for the proceedings. The processional, which has its origins in medieval society, was led by Grand Marshal Bruce Blackerby (Geology), who carried the university mace engraved with the words, "Quality, Diversity, and Service." Provost J. Michael Ortiz presided.
Dr. Albert McLeod (Sociology) spoke on diversity at Fresno State. Amadeu Rodrigues da Silva, the 1999 President's Medalist, recorded a message urging students to take full advantage of learning opportunities. Arakel Arisian, president of Associated Students Inc., asked students to always give one-hundred percent. Dean Judy Sakaki spoke on the incredible growth and challenges college offers, after which President John D. Welty urged the students to be confident and committed citizens.
