Dr. Tomasz Wielicki has been named director of the new Digital Economy Center scheduled to open in February at the Craig School of Business.

The center will educate the business community on the opportunities that information technology creates for small- and medium-sized companies.

Dr. Karen Dill Bowerman, associate dean of the Craig School, said the e-business center will help students and San Joaquin Valley business owners compete in the new economy.

"The Digital Economy Center will offer the latest in technology training and workshops for the community," said Bowerman.

Wielicki, professor in the Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences, has more than 20 years of experience teaching and working with business applications of information technology. He has acted as a consultant, as well, for several corporations in the United States and Europe, assisting in enterprise resource planning and e-business systems implementations.

"The main mission of the Digital Economy Center is to assist the Valley in closing a digital divide," said Wielicki. "The DEC will welcome all local businesses that need a safe passage to the technology-driven 21st century. The DEC also creates a unique opportunity for Fresno State students to experience cutting edge technology solutions.

"We also plan on involving our students directly in training and consulting activities that the center will provide for the local business community," he said.
